Maintenance & Development

The Berlin Senate transferred the management of the Tempelhofer Feld to the state-owned company Grün Berlin back in 2008, before it was opened to the public in 2010. Since then, Grün Berlin has coordinated the maintenance and development of the field with the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment as well as committed citizens.

Within the scope of its tasks, Grün Berlin is responsible for the maintenance of the green spaces as well as the paths and other sealed surfaces, and in particular fulfils the requirements resulting from the regular nature conservation monitoring. The buildings and the entire technical infrastructure of Tempelhofer Feld are operated, maintained and secured by Grün Berlin. In addition, Grün Berlin is responsible for general traffic safety, visitor information through a comprehensive guidance system and is in charge of the visitor and parking service, which includes the topics of safety, first aid, cleanliness, opening hours and general quality management. Grün Berlin employs various service providers to fulfil the various management tasks. The selection is made through invitations to tender in accordance with the state budget regulations.

Leasing, event and contract management, e.g. for existing tenants, for the civic projects, the catering offers and events on the field are also part of Grün Berlin's tasks. In addition, the civic engagement projects are continuously supervised and supported. .

In accordance with the usage agreement with the State of Berlin, Grün Berlin has also been assigned the function of building owner. Within this framework, the Grün Berlin Stiftung supervises and monitors all construction and development projects on the Tempelhofer Feld, which were defined according to the EPP as building blocks for the continuous qualification of the Tempelhofer Feld as a place for leisure, recreation, exercise and nature conservation.
