Renovation of the Yorckbrücken (Yorck bridges)

Restoration of Yorck bridges closes the gap in the pedestrian and bike path along the green north-south corridor between the Park am Gleisdreieck and Flaschenhals Park.

The Nord-Süd-Grünzug, Park am Gleisdreieck, the Flaschenhals Park, completed in 2014, and Monumentenplatz form one of Berlin’s longest path networks away from major roads. The national Berlin-Leipzig long-distance cycle route is also part of this “green corridor”.

To further improve this intensively used inner city network of cycling and pedestrian paths and heighten its national importance, a gap in the network across Yorckstrasse is being filled by the old Yorckbrücke. Renovation of the Yorckbrücke, which are listed as protected historic structures, is an essential prerequisite for improving the path system. The construction of a network of paths crossing Yorckstrasse on four (former) bridges (Nos. 10 / 11 / 14 / 17) has created a barrier-free path system of national importance between the Park am Gleisdreieck and Flaschenhals Park.

The four "Yorckbrücken" are scheduled to be refurbished by the spring of 2016 and open for use by the end of 2016.
