Grün Berlin GmbH is a state-owned company with a non-profit orientation. In the course of the company's development, three subsidiaries and a foundation were established. These include GB infraVelo Gmbh, Grün Berlin Service GmbH and the Grün Berlin Stiftung. From 2023, with the new subsidiary GB infraSignal GmbH, Grün Berlin will also take over the planning, construction, modernisation, operation and maintenance of around 2,100 traffic signals in the capital. The implementation company of the International Garden Exhibition IGA Berlin 2017 GmbH was liquidated after the successful completion of the project.

The sole shareholder of Grün Berlin GmbH as the parent company is the State of Berlin. The company and some of its subsidiaries are supported by supervisory boards and a foundation board. Financing is largely provided by grants from the state and the company's own income.

Grün Berlin GmbH

Since its foundation, the municipal Grün Berlin GmbH has successfully implemented more than 100 projects for public services and urban development. Today, the company operates around 800 hectares of public open spaces and more than 100 buildings in Berlin.

Organised under private law as a non-profit organisation since 1996, the State of Berlin is the sole shareholder of Grün Berlin GmbH. Its tasks include project development, project and construction management, facility and property management, the organisation and implementation of participation processes, as well as knowledge transfer and environmental education at various locations in Berlin.

Grün Berlin Stiftung

The municipal Grün Berlin Stiftung undertakes the development and realisation of infrastructure that is outstanding in terms of urban planning and urban policy and requires interdisciplinary, cross-administrative management.

Founded in 2012, Grün Berlin Stiftung is responsible for project and construction management in the design of public and sustainable open spaces. The foundation also assumes responsibility for special projects that are to be built spatially or functionally across districts. The foundation does not have its own endowment or fixed assets.

Grün Berlin Service GmbH

Since 2010, the municipal Grün Berlin Service GmbH has taken over commercial, administrative and technical services as well as other service tasks.

In addition, Grün Berlin Service GmbH is now also responsible for staging events and functions and is in charge of business management for the Berlin Crematorium.

GB infraSignal GmbH

The efficient expansion and conversion of traffic signals is essential for Berlin's transformation into a city of traffic transformation with priority given to the environmental network of walking, cycling and public transport. Since 2023, GB infraSignal GmbH has been responsible for the management of the approximately 2,100 traffic light installations in Berlin.

With the founding of the company as a subsidiary of the state-owned Grün Berlin GmbH, the planning, construction, modernisation, operation and maintenance of the traffic lights throughout the city was remunicipalised. The company's task is to manage mobility safely and efficiently.

GB infraVelo GmbH

Modern urban development needs an infrastructure that enables sustainable mobility. In climate-friendly urban redevelopment, the municipal GB infraVelo GmbH has taken on extensive tasks in the implementation of infrastructural measures of the state of Berlin since 2017. 

GB infraVelo GmbH is responsible for project control, project, construction and operational management, as well as client tasks and the communication of new infrastructure measures in Berlin. This includes cross-district improvements of the cycling infrastructure with new cycling tracks, long-distance cycle paths, bicycle parking facilities or green coatings. In addition, GB infraVelo GmbH supports the state of Berlin and the districts in the development of sustainable infrastructure that strengthens the environmental alliance. GB infraVelo GmbH assumes coordinating tasks for the projects of the districts and manages the overall portfolio of district cycling measures together with the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment (SenMVKU).
