Infrastructure

North-south greenbelt

The north-south greenbelt enables all Berliners to walk, cycle or skate from Natur-Park Schöneberger Südgelände in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district via Park am Gleisdreieck to Tiergarten in Mitte. Right through the city green, safely free of cars and barriers. The greenbelt along the north-south rail line not only links various parks and urban open spaces in the city, but has also been a continuous section of the supra-regional Berlin-Leipzig long-distance bike path since 2015 with the stage between Monumentenbrücke and Alfred-Lion-Steig. Wild nature and a variety of recreational and sports facilities invite visitors to linger along this green tangent.

Since 2009, Grün Berlin has been working together with the Tempelhof-Schöneberg and Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg districts and the Senate Department for Urban Development and the Environment on this linkage of inner-city open spaces, parks and green spaces. Since 2014, Grün Berlin has also been responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the north-south greenbelt.
