Platz der Luftbrücke

Platz der Luftbrücke is being transformed into an urban space with a high quality of life that serves as a model for sustainable urban development.

Innovative measures for climate resilience, implementation of the Mobility Act, promotion of the local economy and social integration make the project a benchmark for future-oriented urban development. The realisation of the project will create a coherent urban space characterised by high-quality, functional public spaces.

In 2018, the Grün Berlin Foundation took on the planning and implementation of the sustainable redesign of Platz der Luftbrücke on behalf of the State of Berlin. In consultation with citizens, businesses and residents, the district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg and the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment, a forward-looking overall concept was developed on the basis of an ideas and implementation competition.

The previously rather heterogeneous area will be transformed into a coherent, meaningful space with varied squares and green spaces. With innovative rainwater management, the redesign supports the concept of Berlin as a sponge city and will reduce the costs associated with climate change.

According to current plans, construction work on the first section will begin in early 2026.
