Mauerpark

Development & Participation

Since the 1990s, Mauerpark has been a place of active participation. The transformation of the former border strip into an open park symbolises the coexistence of history, the present and commitment.

The extension and redevelopment were designed with sustainable use in mind - permanently maintainable, efficient in the use of funds, viable in operation. The involvement of the neighbourhood has ensured a high level of acceptance and identification to this day.

Since 2025, Grün Berlin has also been gradually taking over the care and maintenance of the original eastern Mauerpark and Falkplatz - in close coordination with the district of Pankow. The aim is to preserve the unique character of the park, safeguard existing uses and maintain the quality of the areas in the long term. Grün Berlin has been successfully managing the park extension since 2020.

Mauerpark remains an open space in motion. The joint design, creative exchange and ecological upgrading show how a park is not only managed, but also filled with life and a future.

Participation

Mauerpark was a place of active civic participation from the very beginning. Immediately after the fall of the Wall, citizens had already made the site their own.
